To brush up on the facts, the game of roulette involves a pinning wheel with slots that are marked with numbers from 0 to 36 in French and European roulette and an extra 00 in American roulette. The roulette table is divided into many areas where bets can be places. There are 3 columns and 12 rows with the numbers 1to 36. There are also 2 boxes on top that have the numbers 0 and 00 in them (if it’s an American table).

Whether you are playing American, European or good old French roulette, there are some basic bets that are applicable to all of these casino gambling games.

The first category of bets is called the ‘Inside bets’. These bets are placed on the single numbers or number combination’s. The inside bets include the following

Straight bet: this is a wager that is placed on any single number from 1 to 36.

Split bet: a player can place a bet on a set of two numbers from 1 to 36

Line bets: They are line bets because the bets are actually placed on the line at the beginning or end of three numbers that are in a single horizontal line.

Corner bet: the bet is placed on a combination of four numbers that make a square and that’s why this is also called a square bet.

Basket bet: This bet is placed on the combination of 5 numbers which are 1-2-3-0-00. This is an American roulette bet.

Outside bets

Other than the table of numbers there is an area demarked for betting and since it’s outside of the table, the bets placed here are called outside bets.

Red Black: players can place bets on the colors red or black.

Odd even: bets are placed in the areas marked odd or even and players win if the number matches the bet they have made.

Dozen bets: players bet on a sequence of 12 successive numbers which are grouped as 1-12, 13-24 and 25-36.

Column bets: These bets are also placed on a dozen numbers but the dozen consists of the numbers in the three vertical columns of numbers. The chips are placed at the bottom of the column to mark the bet.
